Does this car run on electric power or gas? How much do you think it costs and where do you buy them?

What is its safety rating? Is it a safe ride?

It is a concept car, meaning it isn’t out, yet.

That will be a LONG time. The first plug in electric to come out will be the Chevy Volt and even that isn’t out until next year.

That one will have an on-board motor so that after the battery dies, you can continue to drive it if you want to take a cross-country trip or something… but it won’t be mass, mass produced until 2011.

If you want an electric car, you just have to wait. In the meantime, we have the Ford Fusion, at 41 mpg and umm… yeah… that’s about it. If I were you, I’d wait for the Volt or something.

Then again, if you need a car, NOW and gas mileage is a concern, you should look into the Fusion.

Fusion is A LOT cheaper than the electrics, though.

Because the Electric technology is so new,, it is A LOT more expensive, but if you have the money, I’d wait until 2011 for the all-purpose Volt. You can go anywhere. That’s the only electric that CAN go anywhere. The other ones have 100-150 mile limits. The Volt goes on battery alone for 40 miles and then it kicks into its motor and gets 40 miles per gallon after that 40 miles.

Also, there’s apparently a Jetta that uses Diesel and is supposed to get like… 60 mpg. Impressive, but it’s a very small car, so if you need a family car it isn’t for you… then again, if you needed a family car, you wouldn’t be looking at the BMW… whatever that is, either.

It does LOOK cool, but the actual car won’t look anything like the concept… that’s how it always happens.

Safety:

2010 Fusion has really good ratings. 5 star crash test ratings in almost everything, 4 stars in back seat side impact.

The Volt and the BMW haven’t been tested, yet.

I know nothing about the Jetta.

Either way… that’s a glance at all of the new technology that gets really good gas mileage… so, enjoy. Hopefully, you’ll tell us what you end up getting. =D

Edit:

OH! I forgot about the Dodge Circuit. Its kind of sporty and yet again, no one really knows much about it but that it has a 150 mile limit per charge.

That’s the BMW Vision EfficientDynamics concept. It runs on both electricity and Gasoline, like all hybrids.

You’re not going to be able to obtain this car in the US for a while, it’s in the show faze right now. you’ll likely see it in Germany in the next year, you’d probably have to import one for a couple hundred thou. My suggestion?

Buy a volvo. Hybrids cost more than they’ll ever save you.
Wait till you have to replace anything electrical, even the battery! haha!

The first few words in the article you linked are: "As a plug-in full hybrid with a turbodiesel engine"

hmm, looks like diesel and electric

also this is a concept car you cant buy it

It’s a concept car. You’re not going to be able to buy it anywhere without copious (and I mean COPIOUS) amounts of cash to get it custom made. It’s powered by a battery operating two electric motors and a back up turbo diesel generator.

That is a concept car – using a turbo-diesel engine that runs an electric generator, which then runs an electric motor.

Once they actually start making them (if they do) they will be ridiculously expensive.

They are very light, so they probably wouldn’t do well in a bad crash.

These are very expensive, and they only make a couple of them a year – but they are real – totally electric, and go 0-60 in 3.9 seconds (faster than anything on four wheels).

This is a concept car, it is not even in production for sale anywhere. You’ll have to wait until they build it for consumer use.
