What is the minimum credit score I need to get my dream car? A 2009 Dodge Challenger?

March 16th, 2010 | by admin |

Obviously I know the higher the better. I have one huge negative on my credit. A voluntary repo on my wifes car after she passed away that lowered my credit score to 598. Any chance on financing or should I just wait a few years?

My suggestion would be to start putting $450 per month (estimated payment on a low end Challenger) in a money market savings account specifically designated as a car fund. In 2.5 years you will have saved enough to buy a used, low mileage Challenger and saved yourself about $10,000 in depreciation in the process.

Right now lenders are looking to finance people who minimum credit 660+. I would suggest wait out a year or so, so the impact of the repo wont be effecting your credit that much. Good luck!

With a 598, Im not sure you could borrow $7000 let alone whatever a 2009 Dodge Challenger costs.

You might be able to buy a car, a $6-7k car for $1500-2000 down but that’s about it.

Now, if you have $10k down, you might get your dream car.
